Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is now one of Western Europe’s most popular destinations for holiday makers and independent travellers. Once you step out amongst the Bohemian delights it holds, it’s easy to see why. Bordering Poland to the North East, Germany to the West, Austria to the South and Slovakia to the East, the Czech Republic benefits from a myriad of climatic conditions giving rise to numerous outdoor, adventure and cultural activities at any time throughout the year.

Prague

Explore Prague in all its glory The Czech capital of Prague is without a doubt the main attraction, having been shaped into one of the most beautiful of Bohemian cities after over one thousand years of development. With exquisite historical monuments of all architectural forms, Prague is a culture lovers paradise with a host of fascinating buildings and sights scattered throughout the city. Guided by the River Vltava, you can tour the best of them at your leisure – be sure to pay a visit to Prague Castle, the Wallenstein Gardens, National Museum and Vysehrad, one of Prague’s oldest residences situated above the river.

Outside of Prague, the Czech Republic is home to many pretty spa towns such as Karlovy Vary, Carlsbad and Františkovy Lázne, where you can relax in the clear waters of the famous Czech mineral springs used since the 15th century for therapeutic treatments.

The country is also famous for its love of puppetry and marionettes with a number of puppet festivals, carnivals and masked parades taking place throughout the country several times a year. A visit to the Czech Republic isn’t complete without indulging in a few famous Czech beers or a visit to the world-renowned Plzen brewery.  The Pilsener style beer in fact originated in the western Bohemian city of Plzen and further south the town of Budweis lent its name to the beer we know now as Budweiser.

Outdoor Adventures

Quad biking in Prague If you are into your outdoor pursuits, the Czech Republic certainly ticks all the boxes in that area too. Adrenaline packed adventure activities such as quad biking, paragliding, paintballing and ballooning are wildly available and now you can even bobsleigh in the Czech Republic at its one and only track in Prosek!

Nature lovers will be pleased to know that there are four national parks in the Czech Republic, two of which are Biosphere reserves – protected areas designed to demonstrate a balanced relationship between ‘man and nature’. The Krusny Mountains and Sumava mountain range also give a stunning backdrop to the Czech Republic’s bohemian towns and cities.

The best time to visit the Czech Republic really does depend on what you hope to get out of it. Its continental climate, with relatively hot summers and cold, cloudy and snowy winters give the best of both worlds, with opportunities for anything from sun worshipping to skiing – whatever takes your fancy!
